Quibble Creek Distriuct Energy Plant
Quibble Creek District Energy

Location: Surrey BC
Floor Area: 9000 to 15000 sf.

Taylor Kurtz was engaged by the City of Surrey to help advance one node of their Centre City District Energy System. The pre-design report assessed the environment, the program and area requirements for the project’s site, building and energy functions. Six scenarios were studied and costed to house the natural gas boilers/chillers and associated plant infrastructure prior to the City selecting the above scheme. The design proposes sustainable features such as a heavy timber building frame, wind scoops to collect prevailing breezes that help cool the plant floor, and rain gardens along with an enhanced riparian creek bed to help mitigate storm water run-off. The design is further enhanced with a multi-use path, boardwalk and a coloured LED lit glass facade concept that displays the plant’s current energy production. .
